CLARA KASAVINA PRESENTS TRUNK SHOW AT METROPOLITAN OPERA

Dramatic! Romantic! Original! The epithets that apply to Clara Kasavina apply equally to New York’s Metropolitan Opera, so it’s no surprise that Clara was invited to create exclusive evening bags and jewelry for The Met’s Opera Shop at Lincoln Center.

Metropolitan Opera

To see these fabulous designs, join us at Clara Kasavina’s Trunk Show at the shop on October 2 and 3 from Noon until 8pm. On offer are highly collectible evening bags crafted from costumes worn in Met performances, clutches made from the iconic and lavish original curtain that was salvaged when the Old Met was torn down in 1966, as well as crystal pendants made from the Old Met’s chandeliers.

Olga

We adore this gorgeous mustard velvet and embroidered brocade “Olga” evening bag with its Swarovski encrusted frame. Clara told us, “Darling, can you believe - this precious fabric is from a costume worn by mezzo-soprano sensation Sandra Piques Eddy in The Met’s production of The Merry Widow! Where else would you find such grand material but at The Metropolitan Opera?”

A series of costumes from Verdi’s Don Carlo, which enjoyed a “gripping revival” at the Met this year, were used to craft exquisite evening bags, one a minaudiere in brick red velvet adorned with gold braiding, another a small red velvet clutch with a crystal-encrusted frame.

Imagine owning a piece of the Old Metropolitan Opera House’s extravagant curtain? You can – Clara was invited to come up with a creative re-use for that extraordinary feature of the old Met by designing a series of evening bags fashioned from the lush, golden fabric.

Met Gold Curtain Clutch

And what about wearing a piece of The Met around your neck? Clara has taken beautifully-faceted, 100-year-old Swarovski crystal balls from the chandeliers of The Old Metropolitan Opera House and fashioned them into two styles of pendants. There are a limited number of these exquisite, old crystals, so we suggest collectors make a bee-line to Clara’s Trunk Show on October 2 or October 3 (and nothing’s stopping you from attending both).
