Monique Lhullier

Your wedding day is the one day you want absolutely every single last thing about you to be perfect -- your dress, your shoes, your hair and hairpiece, your nails and make-up, the something borrowed-something blue, your hose, intimate apparel, complexion, jewelry and, of course, your handbag, purse or minaudiere. Just what is the perfect accessory for your beautiful, meticulously-chosen dream of a dress? With the plethora of possibilities out there, it’s tricky knowing where to, not to waste time, we went to the source - Clara Kasavina, iconic, international handbag and jewelry designer renowned for her sparkling, collectible designs.

Clara, an incurable Russian romantic, says in her rich accent, “I adore weddings, darling, and I always cry my heart out when he pulls back the veil and plants a kiss on her lips, don’t you? So much love I pour into my bridal handbags and minaudieres.  Such an emotional day calls for everything to be total loveliness.”

We ask about how to choose the right wedding bag. “The secret is that your bag project the same feeling as your wedding dress. Of course, there are some timeless bags that simply go with everything.”  Case in point, we dare say: Clara Kasavina’s Lilia, a glowing gold or silver, hand-sculpted floral minaudiere recently featured in InSide Weddings.

We suggested to Clara a number of styles from the leading wedding gown designers, and for each, she picked a bag that is a perfect, confidence-instilling fit for the bride on her nuptial day.

ForMonique Lhuillier’s classic halter neckline, natural waist gown with full flowing skirt and crystal straps, Clara chose Fabby, a stunning hand-sculpted metal minaudiere studded with geometrically-patterned Swarovski stones.

This Monique Lhuillier ivory wedding gown of re-embroidered and Chantilly lace was inspired by the royal wedding of Kate and William.  Clara chose another charming regal froth to wear with it -- her  Jeweled Shopper, a small chainmail-esque handbag studded with Swarovski crystals.

What could be more elegant than Marchesa’s criss-crossed strapless Greek goddess column with full, floaty skirt? Answer:  an equally elegant, and equally delicate handbag.  Clara chose Milia Clutch, the loveliest, most exquisite clutch enhanced with marabou feathers and an intricate clasp embellished with Swarovski Elements.

Reem Acra’s fall 2012 fantasy strapless gown with layered poufs of fabric is so ethereal only an equally fluffy little flirty bag will do.  Clara suggests Kitty, this adorable little feathery pouf with tuck-in chain.

This gorgeous gown by Carolina Herera is total elegance and sophistication.  Clara felt her Liza Crystal Earrings would add the right amount of sparkle to catch the light in the bride’s eyes. These sumptuous earrings, reminiscent of Mughal India, are wrought of hand-sculpted metal embellished with Swarovski Elements designed in geometric swirls.

The arresting feature of Carmen Marc Valvo’s dreamy tulle gown is the raw-edged ruffles that float down one shoulder strap. The embroidered-with-gilt- threads gown cascades to the floor, where it gently sweeps out.  Clara picked her Sybil, an Heirloom Clutch wrought of hand-sculpted linked metal embellished with pear-shaped Swarovski crystals, to round out Valvo’s super-feminine dress. The bag has a cross-body tuck-in chain, too.

This gorgeous gown from Naeem Khan Fall/Winter 2012-2013 ready-to-wear collection could easily serve as a strapless wedding gown.  The intricate embroidery Khan is known for would be nicely balanced by the simplicity of Clara Kasavina’s “Neve Clutch” a lovely tulle fabric resembling blooming roses, a hand-sculpted metal frame with a rose center clasp pavéed with Swarovski crystals.
